What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is defined inThe Art of Psychotherapy as “the art of alleviating personal difficulties and suffering through conversation in the context of a personal, professional relationship” (Holmes & Starr, 2024, p. 8). In other words, we talk to bring about healing, and it tends to be quite effective.
I believe therapy at its best can be a counter-cultural space for healing. We’ll work through your challenges and towards healing unhelpful coping patterns in this difficult world. Therapy offers a space to deepen and heal your relationships, cultivate inner resilience, and develop an understanding of the parts making up your unique self.
Together we can explore what safe fulfillment looks like for you, weaving in ways of understanding and healing that honour your lived experiences and differences. We’ll explore the lived experiences that have made you and changes to help you to grow into a happier, fuller self.
How does insurance work?
Usually, my services are covered by insurers. Double check with your insurance to see it covers psychotherapists or mental health counselling. If so, you will be able to submit claims with your insurer for reimbursement.
I am able to submit claims directly on your behalf for eligible clients enrolled with Greenshield health insurance, Medavie Blue Cross health insurance, SSQ health insurance, and MÉDIC Construction health insurance.
Do you work with clients outside of Ontario?
Yes, please be in touch to confirm eligibility. I can work with clients in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland & Labrador.
When are sessions available?
I offer daytime and evening availabilities on weekdays.
What is your rate per session?
I charge $145/hour for individuals, and $160/hour for relational (couple’s) counselling. If this rate is inaccessible for you, I offer a limited number of sliding scale rate availabilities. Please reach out to discuss.
How often are sessions scheduled?
I recognize the financial and time investment it takes to engage in therapy. Just like any relationship, frequency matters at the start. It is important that we meet weekly or biweekly to establish our therapeutic relationship, complete the intake assesment process, and then we can re-evaluate frequency.
Where do sessions take place?
I offer therapy virtually only at this time. I use PHIPA-compliant Jane for video sessions. Phone sessions are available upon request.
For in-person availability in Kitchener-Waterloo, please be in touch to be connected with me at Zenith Counselling.
Do you use AI (Artificial Intelligence) in sessions?
No.
Therapists and healthcare providers are increasingly relying upon using recordings of sessions to utilize large-language models (“Artificial Intelligence”) to create charts for them.
I do not use LLMs/AI, and sessions are never recorded to support confidentiality.
